Use AI as a creative partner, then make the final idea unmistakably yours.
A useful little possibility.
The blank page is often the hardest part. You’ll brainstorm a small community event, compare a few directions and combine the best parts into one concept. You don’t need to be a designer or a professional writer.
Let’s make a start.
Start with the fictional brief below, or swap in a non-sensitive idea of your own. Give the AI some boundaries: the audience, the mood, the space and the time you have.
Don’t ask for “the best idea” immediately. Ask for genuinely different directions so you have something to react to.
Act as a brainstorming partner. I want to organise a small, free neighbourhood book swap in a shared indoor space. Audience: adults and families. Mood: welcoming, relaxed, no pressure to buy anything. Give me five genuinely different concepts, each with a name, a one-sentence idea and a practical activity. Avoid expensive equipment, copyrighted characters and made-up claims. Then ask which parts I like rather than choosing a winner for me.
Keep personal and confidential information out of external AI tools. Start with the sample material.
Turn a first try into your thing.
Pick one detail from two different ideas and combine them. Tell the AI what you liked and what didn’t fit. Ask for a 60-word invitation and a simple preparation checklist.
Rewrite the opening line yourself. Remove promises you can’t deliver. You now have a concept and a first draft that reflect your judgement.
Pause for the “aha.”
AI is useful for generating alternatives, not deciding your taste. The creative skill is noticing which parts are interesting and giving useful feedback.
Check that the plan fits the actual space, permissions and audience before using it. A catchy name may already exist; don’t assume an AI-generated name is unique.
One possibility leads to another.
Try the same process for a hobby newsletter, a family activity or a personal creative project. Add a playful constraint: “no screens,” “only recycled materials,” or “under 30 minutes.”
Share your final concept with a friend and ask what they would change. Bring that feedback into one more iteration.
